FIRE in Defence

Hey, I’m Jamie – a current serving officer in the ADF with a passion for personal finance. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to learn about money, investing, and financial independence, but it wasn’t until I joined the ADF that I realised just how rare financial education is among my colleagues.

Like many of you, I love my job and the people I serve with. But I also know this career isn’t forever. One day, whether it’s for a change of pace, a new civilian career, or more time with loved ones, we’ll all face the decision of what comes next. The question is—will you be financially prepared?

That’s where FIRE in Defence comes in. My mission is to educate ADF members on money management, investing, and the exciting concept of FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early). Most people think retirement happens in their 60s, but with the right investing strategies, it’s possible to retire decades earlier—giving you the freedom to choose how you spend your time, rather than being tied to a paycheck.

This is not financial advice—I’m not here to tell you what to do with your money. Instead, I provide the knowledge and tools to help you understand your options, take control of your finances, and build a system that works for you.

Defence personnel are in a unique position to achieve FIRE faster than most, thanks to stable incomes, benefits, and discipline. My goal is to share practical, easy-to-implement strategies tailored for ADF members—so you can set up a system, automate it, and get on with your life, knowing your financial future is secure.
